2011-2012 Falmouth Forum Schedule

The 2011-2012 Falmouth Forum season begins on November 18 with "Missa Charles Darwin," a secular Mass setting based on Darwin's On The Origin Of Species. Some Forum titles are still being finalized, but you can check the dates and speakers on the MBL website.

John Valois, Longtime Specimen Collector and Naturalist, Honored at the Marine Biological Laboratory

In May long-time MBL family member Arthur Pardee attended the 50th anniversary celebration of the discovery of The Operon at Institut Pasteur in Paris.

Corporation member Thoru Pederson received the Medal of the Charles University Medical School, Prague in May for "distinction in cell biology" and for "longstanding support of Czech science.”

The Cell Library website won the Readers' Choice award for best website from The Scientist.

Seven Elected to the National Academy of Sciences

Thank you to the members of the 2011 MBL All Stars, who raised $11,551 in this year's Falmouth Road Race Numbers for Non-profits!

The Tokyo String Quartet again delighted the audience in Lillie Auditorium on July 31 at the annual MBL Gala, and this year was joined by Pianist Haochen Zhang, 2009 winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. A champagne and dessert reception on the Swope terrace followed the concert.

The Biological Bulletin

The Biological BulletinThe August 2011 issue of The Biological Bulletin contains a “virtual” symposium entitled, “Models and Mechanisms of Regenerative Biology Across Phylogeny.” The symposium is timed to celebrate a major milestone for the MBL: the opening of the new Eugene Bell Center for Regenerative Biology and Tissue Engineering. Editors and organizer of the symposium are James L., Olds, the Editor-in-Chief of The Biological Bulletin; Joel Smith of the Eugene Bell Center; and Manabu Sakakibara, of Tokai University in Japan. The entire symposium of 9 articles is available free without a subscription.
