Gary Borisy Message from the Director

While temperatures in Woods Hole have been unseasonably mild this fall, the pace at the MBL, as usual, is quite brisk. As I write this letter, we are in the midst of wrapping up another successful fall conference season. Suni Williams Public Outreach
NASA astronaut and flight engineer Suni Williams came back to the MBL on September 12 to give an uplifting talk on her recent six-month stay at the International Space Station. Orbiting 210 miles above the Earth, Williams ran scientific tests at the ISS, for which she prepared by spending three weeks at the MBL in 2004 along with three other astronauts as part of a training workshop aimed at providing science background and laboratory training for astronauts. Following her talk, Williams recalled what she gained from her MBL experience. More >>>

Rowe ribbon cutting Facilities Update

MBL Dedicates Rowe Laboratory
The former Whitman building was officially rededicated the Rowe Laboratory on August 3, 2007, in recognition of the historic $5 million capacity-building gift made to the MBL in 2006 by Chairman of the Board John W. Rowe and his wife Valerie. The newly renovated, 34,000 square foot, state-of-the-art laboratory opened its doors on schedule this spring, welcoming 110 principal investigators and an additional 184 scientists and students from 146 institutions and 16 countries to new laboratories. The Rowe Laboratory is home to the Whitman Center, the MBL's international program for summer and visiting research.

Remarks were made by MBL Director & CEO Gary Borisy, MBL Whitman Center Director Robert Goldman, and MBL Chairman of the Board Jack Rowe. The event concluded with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house. Click to view the Quicktime slideshow.
