MBL Names Bill Reznikoff New Director of Education

MBL, WOODS HOLE, MA—The Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) is pleased to announce that Dr. William Reznikoff has been named the institution’s new Director of Education. Dr. Reznikoff is a senior research scientist at the MBL’s Bay Paul Center in Comparative Molecular Biology and Evolution, as well as program director for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute-funded teacher education program “Discover the Microbes Within” held annually at the MBL. His research interests are in the area of bacterial and molecular genetics.

The MBL Education Program encompasses a broad range of students, from high-school biology teachers to postdoctoral scientists and university faculty. The laboratory’s intensive summer courses are world-renowned, and attract graduate and postdoctoral students from around the world.

“The MBL Education Director Search Committee unanimously recommended Bill as our top candidate after a rigorous national search from a very strong field of finalists,” said Joshua Hamilton, MBL Chief Academic and Scientific Officer. “Bill had served ably in a part-time role as acting MBL Education Director while our search for a new director was underway, so he comes to the position with a great deal of direct experience and a strong understanding of our programs, people, and culture.”

Dr. Reznikoff received a B.A. in Biology from Williams College and a Ph.D. in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University. He was appointed an MBL senior research scientist in 2007, after nearly four decades as a professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he currently holds the position of Professor Emeritus. He is a member of both the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Microbiology.

Dr. Reznikoff and his wife Cathy, live in Falmouth, MA.
