on Global Infectious Diseases July 22-24
Meeting Sponsored by The Ellison Medical Foundation and the MBL
WOODS HOLE, MAA Colloquium on Global Infectious Diseases will be held July 22 to 24 at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. The meeting is sponsored by the MBL and The Ellison Medial Foundation. The goal of the meeting is to provide an interface between scientists and students working at the MBL and professionals in the field of global infectious diseases. The meeting is free and open to the public.
The Colloquium will be held in the MBLs Lillie Auditorium beginning at 8:30 AM each day. Topics include tuberculosis and malaria research, using vaccines to enhance food safety, and ecological influences on pathogen genome evolution. A detailed program can be found here.
The Ellison Medical Foundation, established and supported by Lawrence J. Ellison, supports two areas of researchbasic biomedical research on aging relevant to understanding aging processes and age-related diseases and disabilities; and basic research on molecular and cellular mechanisms of parasitic and infectious diseases of major global public health importance, caused by viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoal or helminthic pathogens. The foundation particularly wishes to stimulate new creative research that might not be funded by traditional sources or that is often under-funded in the U.S. The Ellison Medical Foundation fosters research by means of grants-in-aid to investigators at universities and laboratories within the United States using a variety of award mechanisms including a New Scholars Program, Senior Scholars Program, Conferences and Workshops Awards Program, a Training Program, and an Infrastructure Awards Program.
The Ellison Foundation currently supports the MBLs Biology of Parasitism summer course as well as the Laboratorys Program in Molecular Pathogenesis and Global Infectious Disease.
