MBL, WOODS HOLE, MA—The Census of Marine Life (www.coml.org) will wrap up its historic decade of exploration, research, recording and logging of marine life past and present with a finale celebration and research presentation in London this fall. The CoML involves more than 2,000 scientists from 80-plus nations – one of the largest global scientific collaborations ever undertaken. Among its working groups is the International Census of Marine Microbes (ICoMM) component, co-directed by Mitchell Sogin of the MBL’s Bay Paul Center.

“In no other realm of ocean life has the magnitude of Census discovery been as extensive as in the world of microbes,” Sogin says.
