MBL Trustees Elect New Members
The Trustees of the Marine Biological Laboratory elected three new Board members at their February 1, 2003, meeting. Richard B. DeWolfe of Milton, Massachusetts, was elected to the Class of 2004, William I. Huyett of Concord, Massachusetts, to the Class of 2006, and Ambrose K. Monell of Palm Beach, Florida, to the Class of 2003.
Richard B. DeWolfe is Managing Partner of DeWolfe & Company, LLC. He is a Director of John Hancock Financial Services Inc., The Boston Foundation, The National Conference for Community and Justice, and is also a Boston University Trustee. He was formerly Chairman and CEO of The DeWolfe Companies, Inc., the largest homeownership organization in New England, which was listed on the American Stock Exchange and acquired by Cendant Corporation in 2002. Mr. DeWolfe was formerly Chairman of Reliance Relocation Services, Inc. and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Boston University. He and his wife have a summer home in Quissett.
William I. Huyett is a Director at McKinsey and Company, Inc., and a leader in the firms pharmaceutical practice. He advises European- and U.S.-based clients, who specialize in pharmaceuticals, over-the-counter products, and medical devices. His areas of interest include innovation in pharmaceutical commercialization and marketing, novel corporate and organization forms for large pharmaceutical firms, the role of mergers and alliances in pharma industry evolution, and the comparative development of healthcare systems in Asia, Europe, and North America. Mr. Huyett also co-leads McKinseys strategy practice, which is responsible for innovation in the areas of business unit strategy, corporate strategy, and microeconomics. Currently based in Boston, he has served clients from McKinseys Zurich and Washington, DC, offices. Prior to joining McKinsey, Mr. Huyett held a variety of line management positions in the electronics industry.
Ambrose K. Monell is a Director of the Ambrose Monell Foundation, founded in 1952 by Maude Monell Vetlesen. He is also a Director of the G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, founded in 1955 by the late George Unger Vetlesen. The Monell Foundation provided seed money for the Philadelphia-based Monell Chemical Senses Center founded in 1968. The G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation primarily supports scientific institutes and has a long history with the MBL. It has provided more than $3.8 million to the Laboratory since 1986, including significant gifts to the Laboratorys Marine Resources Center and Bay Paul Center. Mr. Monell has been a member of the MBLs Council of Visitors since 1997.
