Honors and Awards

Summer Investigator and Corporation Member Avram Hershko will receive the prestigious E. B. Wilson medal from the American Society for Cell Biology at their annual meeting in San Francisco this December. He will share the award with Alexander Varshavsky. Hershko is a Professor at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

MBL Corporation Member Douglas R. Shanklin was awarded the Exellence in Teaching Award, College of Graduate Health Sciences, 2001-2002, from the University of Tennessee. Shanklin is a Professor of Pathology and of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Member of the Graduate Faculty. He was recognized for “outstanding teaching and genuine concern for students.”

MBL Corporation Member and Trustee Gerald Weissmann has been elected a foreign member of the National Academy of Lyncei. The Academy was founded in 1603 and is based in Rome, Italy. Its purpose is to “promote, coordinate, integrate and spread scientific knowledge in its highest expression, in the unity and universality of culture.” Weissmann is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology at New York University Medical Center.
