The MBL is going green. We’ve teamed with Haley & Aldrich, Inc. (www.haleyaldrich.com), an engineering company specializing in environmental consulting and underground engineering, to develop a comprehensive recycling and waste reduction program on campus.

Larry Burdge, MBL Manager of Building Services, Transportation, and Grounds, and R. Marc Fournier, Senior Environmental Specialist at Haley & Aldrich, are coordinating the effort, working with our in-house Reduce, Reuse, and Recycling Committee.

“The new recycling program will initially focus on office paper, cardboard, and bottles and cans, and will eventually expand to include other materials,” says Larry.

The initiative was launched this summer in the Lillie and Loeb buildings and continued this fall with a walk-through assessment of most other locations on campus. An evaluation is currently being developed for the remaining buildings, so they can be brought in line with the program by late November. Swope and the dormitories will be addressed after the first of the year. A recycling website is also in the works, so the MBL community can learn more about the program and access the recycling guidelines.

If you are interested in serving as a department recycling coordinator, or want more information on this innovative partnership, please contact Larry Burdge at x7530, lburdge@mbl.edu, or Marc Fournier at (617) 886-7445, mfournier@haleyaldrich.com.
