Appendix 7: Microinjection


Despite previous reports to the contrary (Henry and Martindale, 1987), we (Eckberg and Miller, 1995) have had no difficulty in microinjecting these eggs through their vitelline envelopes. We have observed microinjected eggs through polar body formation, although fertilized eggs did not develop further in Hiramoto chambers. Procedures used were the same as those for other marine invertebrate eggs (e.g., Hiramoto, 1962; Kiehart, 1982).
