Recent Grants and Gifts

The American Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology renewed their grant in the amount of $9,000 in support of the Science Journalism Program being offered this summer.

Massachusetts Water Resources Authority awarded $200,545 (over two years; subawarding institution: Batelle Ocean Sciences) for “Harbor and Outfall Monitoring III.” Anne Giblin is the principal investigator.

National Science Foundation awarded $119,956 (over four years; subawarding institution: The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York; $29,989 first year) for “BE/CBC: Land Water Interactions at the Catchment Scale: Linking Biogeochemistry and Hydrology.” John Hobbie is the principal investigator.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminstration awarded $52,591 (over two years) for “Resolving Population Structure with Molecular Genetics to Enhance Management of the Highly Exploited Squid Fishery [2nd Year].” Roger Hanlon is the principal investigator.

Northeastern Regional Aquaculture Center awarded $12,606 (subawarding institution: University of Rhode Island) for “Management, Diagnosis and Prevention of Flounder Infectious Necrotizing Enteritis (FINE).” Roxanna Smolowitz is the principal investigator.

NASA awarded $110,122 (over four years) for “Biogeochemical Consequences of Agricultural Intensification in the Amazon Basin.” Jerry Melillo is the principal investigator.

National Institutes of Health awarded the following grants:

• $1,478,996 (over five years; $275,000 first year) for “Professional Services in Support of NLM’s Outreach Efforts to Encourage the Use of Computers and Information Science in Medicine.” Cathy Norton is the principal investigator.

• $310,000 (over three years; $155,000 first year) for “Role of Islet Structure and Function in Insulin Release.” Peter Smith is the principal investigator.

• $155,000 (over two years; $77,500 first year) for “Origin of Virulence Factors in African Trypanosomes.” Andrew McArthur is the principal investigator.

Environmental Protection Agency awarded $9,995 (subawarding institution: Eltron Research, Inc.) for “Non-toxic Exotic Species/Organic Compound Waterway Contamination Control.” Alan Kuzirian is the principal investigator.
