MBL Exhibit Installed on Water Street

The MBL recently installed a window exhibit in the 97 Water Street building, new home to IT employees working on uBIO, a taxonomic database project being developed by the MBL/WHOI Library. The building’s window alcoves, left vacant by former tenant "Soft as a Grape," presented the MBL with an opportunity to reach the public through a visual display on Woods Hole’s pedestrian-heavy thoroughfare.

The exhibit aims to inform passersby about the work of the Laboratory and encourages people to visit to the Pierce Visitors Center and Associates Gift Shop across the street to learn more. In addition, some of the many marine organisms used in MBL research are artfully displayed in the exhibit’s side window. The intense heat and sunlight that results from the building’s southerly orientation presented designers with a formidable challenge. Rather than using photography, graphics and artwork had to be silk screened onto laminate panels with fade-resistant paints to ensure that the exhibit can stand the test of time. The exhibit's color palate and design complement that of the MBL's new web site.

Parking Update

Parking is getting more difficult, especially if you arrive on campus after 8:45 AM. Rather than drive in circles trying to find a spot, why not take the shuttle? The revised schedule runs from 8:40 AM straight through to 1:10 PM, resumes at 5 PM, and continues until 6:30 PM. Whatever the reason, if you need to arrive later in the morning, you have the dependable option of EASY parking at Devils Lane.
