EsCape the Cape
The short, cold days of winter on Cape Cod offer the solitude and quiet that some year-rounders crave. But for others, a flurry of city activities beckons. In this issue, we offer a reverse “Great EsCape,” with a few ways you can relieve cabin fever this winter in nearby Boston or Providence.

Butterfly Garden at the Museum of Science

Tired of winter? Step into a balmy, sun-drenched exhibit filled with blooming plants and free-flying butterflies. The Museum of Science’s Butterfly Garden offers a magical and relaxing respitefrom the sound of trickling water to the warm, earthy scent of a greenhouse full of flowers. Identification guides help visitors determine the names and origins of the butterflies they see, while labels placed throughout the conservatory highlight key behaviors to watch for. This exhibit offers a wonderful opportunity to get close to a variety of butterflies from New England and across the globe. Admission is $3.00 for children, $4.00 for students and adults, on top of regular museum admission.

Budding sommeliers take note! The largest trade and consumer wine event in the country takes place at Boston’s Seaport World Trade Center, February 10-11 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Sample more than 1,800 wines from over 450 international wineries. Other events include food tasting with celebrity chefs, guided tasting and seminars, “meet and greet” with winemakers, as well as a multi-course vintner dinner prepared in collaboration with the wines being served. Tickets are $85.00 per person per day ($70.00 if ordered before February 2), discounts available for two-day passes.

Round up the family for an action-packed BU Terrier men’s ice hockey game. For more than 80 years, the Terriers have been one of the top collegiate teams in the country and now routinely play to sell-out crowds. Transport yourself to spring at the 14th Annual Rhode Island Spring Flower & Garden Show, February 22-25 at the Rhode Island Convention Center.
