Facilities Update
Winter is always a busy season for construction and renovation projects at the MBL. Here is an update on current and recently completed projects of note:
Rowe Laboratory Renovations
Renovations to the Rowe (formerly Whitman) Laboratory remain on schedule. Starting from the top down, trades contractors are following each other through the building. Much of the roof work, the fourth floor and the third floor work is nearly complete. Walls are nearly all up on the second floor and the first floor slab has been replaced with a significant amount of new infrastructure beneath. View the slideshow for an inside look on how the project is progressing.
Eel Pond Sea Wall
To the delight of employees who park in the Lillie lot, the last phase of the Lillie sea wall reconstruction was completed in mid-December. More than 250 tons of large stones make up the new wall.
MBL Cottages
A new septic system has been installed for Devil’s Lane cottages 15a and 17a and renovations have begun for the other four winterized cottages in Devil’s Lane. These cottages can be occupied year-round. Renovations will be completed for the summer 2007 season.
Bay Paul Center Lab Space
Renovations to a portion of the Lillie third floor (formerly occupied by the MBLWHOI Library) is now complete. The lab and office areas are all new and ready for occupancy.
