Haeckel Exhibit on Display at Museum
MBL Employees Offered Free Admission
The MBL’s “Art Forms in Nature” exhibit, which features a selection of digitized reproductions from biologist Ernst Haeckel’s 1904 work, Kunstformen der Natur, is on display now through January 21 at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis. The exhibit is part of the MBLWHOI Library’s rare book collection and was originally displayed in the Meigs Room last year. Click here to view the online exhibit.
Haeckel was a German scientist and accomplished artist who traveled far and widefrom Sicily, to the North Sea, and beyond while sketching deep-sea vegetation, aquatic creatures, frogs, birds, and higher animals. His drawings are considered a forerunner of the Art Nouveau movement.
“The MBL is pleased to share this magnificent exhibit with the museum,” said MBL Director of Communications, Pamela Clapp Hinkle. “We are hopeful that this will be the first of many exhibits that we can share with the greater Cape community.”
MBLWHOI Library Director Cathy Norton will be giving a talk at the museum on Thursday, November 2 at 11:00 AM.
The Museum is offering free admission to MBL employees during this exhibition. Show your MBL ID card at the front desk. For more information about the museum and directions, visit <www.ccmoa.org> or call (508) 385-4477.
