Great EsCapes

I Scream, You Scream!

Ice cream lovers living on Cape Cod have plenty to be sweet on. In fact, there seems to be an ice cream parlor on every corner. But as real ice cream connoisseurs know, butterfat is the key ingredient in the tastiest brands. So here’s the scoop on some of the best and butterfattiest ice cream makers this side of the canal.

1. Four Seas

The ice cream at Four Seas is melt-in-your-mouth great. So great, you’ll be thinking about it for months after you’ve tried it. Besides their ice cream, Four Seas is renowned for their tasty hot fudge and an unusual variety of other toppings, including peanut butter, old fashioned butterscotch, and crème de menthe. But don’t ask for too much topping . . . you’ll want to taste every bite of your Four Seas scoop.

2. Sundae School
381 Lower Country Road
Dennisport

If it’s a sundae you’re after, Sundae School is the place to go. Try one of their famous hot fudge sundaes topped with real whipped cream and a fresh bing cherry (in season). Or try a scoop of one of their more exotic flavors, such as Kahlua Chip or Bass River Mud.

3. Somerset Creamery
1268 Route 28A
Bourne

Serious about your ice cream? Try the Somerset Creamery. They’ll have you in ice-cream heaven in no time. Try a scoop in one of their waffle cones, which they bake daily on site. Fruit lovers will enjoy their Cherry Chocolate Crunch or Cranberry Bog; dieters will enjoy their sugar-free chocolate or maple walnut or a wide variety of frozen yogurt.
