Among 76 acres of gently rolling hills next to Sandwichs Upper Shawme Pond awaits Heritage Museum and Gardens. Perhaps best known for the thousands of rhododendron plants that cover the property, the gardens also showcase more than a thousand varieties of trees, shrubs, and flowers. Most recently, Heritage has added a labyrinth to its landscape. Adult admission: $12, children ages 6 to 16: $6, children under 5: free.

Stressed out after a busy week at work? Relax with the soothing scent of lavender by paying a visit to the Cape Cod Lavender Farm. Located on 12 secluded acres in Harwich, the Farm boasts over 14,000 plants. Visitors can purchase plants as well as a wide variety of lavender-based products. Visitors also enjoy the Farms Enchanted Garden, featuring a miniature stone replica of a medieval castle. Lavender harvest is in June and July. Admission is free.

Less than three miles from the village of Woods Hole lie Spohr Gardens, a six-acre oasis nestled on the shores of Oyster Pond in Falmouth. The gardens awake each spring when thousands of daffodils explode into color, soon followed by blooming rhododendrons and daylilies. The Gardens will hold Daffodil Days on May 1 and May 7 from 10:00 pm to 2:00 pm. This event includes guided garden tours, lectures, and childrens crafts. Admission is free to the general public.

The Polly Hill Arboretum is a horticultural and botanical
landmark located on Marthas Vineyard. The 60-acre property is crisscrossed by old stonewalls surrounding open, wildflower-filled meadows. Particular areas of interest are the 285-foot walkway
of Kousa dogwood trees that
flower from mid-June into July. Also, be sure to walk through a whimsical arbor of trees, affectionately referred to as the Tunnel of Love. Requested entrance donation: $5 for adults, free for children 12 and under. |
