What’s New on the MBL Website

Recent updates from MBL Web Editor/Designer David Gallagher

In addition to the many daily updates that are made to the MBL website–seminar listings, community events, press releases, and even the week’s menu at Swope–several major changes have been made to the site in recent months.

Human Resources:
Updates include the “Staff Toolbox,” an area with HR policies, forms, publications, benefits information, a staff activities page, and links to the online timesheet.

Online Gift Shop:
Shoppers can now browse the MBL Associates Gift Shop from the comfort of their own home. The online gift shop offers secure payment, and accepts major credit cards.

Publications:
The spring edition of LabNotes, the latest edition of The New Collecting Net, and 2005 Photography Contest information are now available in the “Publications” section of the website. Look for the 2004 Annual Report to be posted in coming weeks.

Research:
New press releases have been added for many research topics, including:

  • Avram Hershko’s 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation
  • Carol Reinisch’s clam embryo study on the effects of pollutant mixtures on nerve cell development
  • Roger Hanlon’s study of cuttlefish sexual mimicry
  • The Bay Paul Center’s discovery of the protein JBP2 and its relationship to African sleeping sickness

Education:
Major updates have been made to the MBL/Brown site and the Physiology Course site, and 2005 application forms, tuition and housing rates, and all deadlines are also available online.
